Welcome to Lab of Vaibhav

By Vaibhav Patel on

For a long time my notes lived everywhere: phone notes, project folders, screenshots and half-written drafts. Useful things got lost. This site is my fix for that.

Why “Lab”

Almost everything I work on starts as an experiment. A dataset that looks wrong, a mapping method I want to test, a new tool I want to try on a real problem. Some of those become proper projects. Many don’t, but they still teach me something worth keeping. A lab felt like the right name for a place where that happens in the open.

What I’ll write about

  • GIS and remote sensing. Methods, workflows and the mistakes I made getting them to work.
  • Civil engineering. Where spatial data helps on real projects, and where it doesn’t.
  • Tools and technology. Software, AI tools and gadgets I try, with honest notes on whether they were worth it.
  • Building SpatioWorld. Lessons from running a geospatial venture from Pune.

How the rest of the site fits

The Projects section will hold case studies of work I’ve done, with the problem, approach and result. The Podcast will come later, with conversations with people doing interesting work in engineering and geospatial fields. If you need help on a project, the Services page explains what I take on.

What to expect from posts

Practical and plain. If I describe a method, I’ll show the steps. If I’m unsure about something, I’ll say so.

Shorter updates go out on YouTube, Instagram and X under the same name. New posts here are also available by RSS.

Thanks for reading the first one.
